I have a problem. I heavily uses IM, mostly pidgin on several machines.

And all my logs are “distributed”, so I wanted a place where to store them.

I know some services already exists, like im-history or dexrex but I’m not really a big fan.

How about using a storage place where you can sort data, search it and just having many access interfaces? GMail!

So yes the idea is not new (gaim2imap and IMLogs2 for example) but I needed my own.

Feel free to use comments to fix bugs, add stuff, and so on. I’ll be glad. It worked for me in most cases, maybe not for you.

I’m Derek one of the Dexrex founders. Sorry to hear your not a big fan, but I like what you are trying to do.
In any case, you say you want a place to store your messages and that is exactly what we are trying to make… I would really appreciate your input on what we could do better. What would make you want to store logs to dexrex instead to gmail?

I’m very glad you took a look at it.
To be honest, it’s not that I’m not really a big fan, I like your website (even if it seems I loose some information parts in conversations and that the java applet can’t import old conversations – but I guess this will be fixed). My motivation was more playing with perl and Gmail. Also I prefer to have only one browser tab for email/IM, you know what if you don’t open tabs with things like dexrex, you’ll forget it.
Also it’s a “open source” stuff, means I did something that was already existing, it’s buggy and I’ll probably give up soon.

Anyway, I have two comments for you to make dexter killer app :-)
1. add your data in the “view log” right-click in pidgin.
2. merge with Meebo ;-))
